Kia K900 – Style Meets Substance

You’ve seen the LeBron commercials. You thought to yourself, “Yeah they gave him the suped up model, but it’s probably not that nice.” Mr. Refined had a chance to get up close and personal with the Kia K900. Forget what you thought!  Kia has stepped into the luxury arena and makes a statement with the K900.

Style

From the leather styling and carefully appointed buttons, attention to detail is evident. The model we experienced was the luxury trim level, fitted with the VIP package. The exterior was Snow White Pearl with White Nappa Leather interior, making for a handsome white on white accented by jet black piping on the seats. The dashboard and leather-wrapped steering wheel is trimmed with wood, while the rest of the interior is accented with a stately and modern combination of leather, wood, and polished aluminum.

Luxury

The layers of luxury don’t stop at materials. The technology in the car is on par with other cars in the Full-size Luxury car segment (i.e. BMW 7 Series, Audi A8, Mercedes Benz S550 & Lexus LS 460). The VIP package comes with a Surround View Monitor that is great for seeing all around as you park or back out of a tight driveway. For a full listing of features, check out Kia’s website.

Comfort

Space is the last thing you will ever worry about in the K900 as it boasts best-in-class legroom at 45.9 inches in the front. Guys 6’4″ and taller will have no problem being comfortable in this car. When you see LeBron in the commercials, know that it is truly spacious enough for a 6’8″ guy. Additionally, the front and rear seats are heated for those brutal Northeast winters, while the front seats are air-conditioned through perforated vents in the Nappa leather seats for those hot summer days. One of the coolest features is the seat controls located on the door panel, which allows you to adjust the headrest to make sure you’re in the best seating position possible. Even the rear seats recline and slide back for additional legroom! This car is a great option for being chauffeur driven or hanging in the back and getting work done while you’re on the road.

Performance

The K900 is outfitted with a 5.0L V8 putting down 420hp and 376 lb-ft of torque, pulling in a rear wheel drive configuration. The car has soft steering and a suspension soft enough to handle the potholes of any urban area. Stomping on the gas, the K900 goes from 0-60mph in 5.5 seconds. We didn’t get a chance to fully test this out, but only because we ran out of room. Before the shoot, we took the car down a side street in Harlem and was able to get the car up to about 45mph before having to slow down for a stop light. The brakes were solid and erased speed quickly bringing the car to a controlled stop.

Overall, the Kia K900 is a formidable choice in the full-size luxury segment. At just $60k, you get a full-size luxury sedan for the same price as cars in the mid-size luxury tier (BMW 5 Series, Audi A6, Mercedes Benz 400 & Lexus GS 450). It’s a great value and should be on your list if you’re car shopping.
